PHOENIX, Ariz. (May
31, 2006): Bob Hobbs Jr., who has
turned his near-paralyzing battle
with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
(OCD) into a motivational program
of Hope I Vision I Passion
is being asked to tell his story to
a growing number of audiences in the
Southwest.
Hobbs personal journey
and that of his family in overcoming
challenges already has been shared
with organizations including HomeBase
Youth Services, Junior League of Phoenix,
the annual meeting of Vestar and UMOM
New Day Centers .
He will be the keynote
speaker for the upcoming Sigma Chi
Horizons leadership program on June
17 in Snowbird, Utah , and he will
deliver the graduation keynote address
to the StarShine Academy on June 1
at The Ice House.
The Sigma Chi Horizons
leadership experience is a series
of three six-day immersion programs
in interactive learning that engages
both the mind and body of Sigma Chi
underclassmen. The program explores
linking leadership to personal values
and character, incorporating high-minded
values into a lifelong practice of
leadership and discovering and using
a student's full potential.
Previous keynote
speakers have included businessman
and philanthropist Jon Huntsman Sr.
and his son, the current governor
of Utah , Jon Huntsman, Jr.; and Bill
Hybl, President Emeritus of the United
States Olympic Committee.
StarShine Academy
is a K-12 charter school serving low-income
students using a holistic approach
to education to engage a child's mind,
body and spirit. The school has been
recognized by the United Nations and
educational leaders. Previous graduation
speakers have included Vernon Parker,
the former Assistant Secretary for
Civil Rights; Arizona Superintendent
of Public Instruction Tom Horne; and
Jarret Maupin II, the youngest man
to run for political office in Arizona
.
“The Horizons graduates
as well as the kids graduating from
StarShine Academy have learned to
overcome very different but no less
compelling challenges,” Hobbs said.
“What I bring is another voice that
I hope will inspire and motivate them
to continue moving ahead with the
knowledge that they are the only ones
who can control their individual destinies.”
Hobbs said that realization
is what led to his own decision to
leave a highly successful third-generation
business he was running to share the
message that living life with Hope
| Vision | Passion®
can help others overcome life's “speed
bumps.” Hobbs family owns and operates
Naumann/Hobbs Material Handling.
“Looking back, I
realized that the challenges thrown
at me were actually opportunities
to grow,” he said. “We can't choose
what comes our way during our lives,
but we do have a choice in how to
handle it. We must choose to be happy.”
